Fright Night remake?  Heck, I sure hope not.  There's nothing wrong with the original Fright Night and it still remains to be one of my all-time favorite horror films.  Anyway, I was bored and thought I'd type in Fright Night on Wikipedia to see what it had to say about the movie.  As you scroll downward, you'll see something about Dreamworks wanting to make a remake of the vampire film this year.  Personally, I'd rather see a part three even though it wouldn't be the same without Roddy.

Any thoughts?

It's also one of my favorite horror movies. I wasn't crazy about the sequel but it's not bad. A remake is completely unnecessary but with all of the successful vampire projects going on right now I'm not surprised they're talking about it.

They are definately overdoing the remake thing.  Can you believe they are redoing Karate Kid & Red Dawn?  Red Dawn was perfect the way it was.  I won't watch them.

I LOVE Fright Night and I don't need a remake either.  A third would be cool Rob.

Favorite scene-when they snuck into the night club to escape him and he dances with her and she doesn't see his reflection, awesome!!

I definitely need to watch it again soon now;)

Thanks for responding, everyone.

Yeah, I can still remember going to the movie theater back in the 80's to see such horrific thrillers as Fright Night, Return of the Living Dead, Ghoulies (They'll get u in the end!), and Re-animator.  Horror movies are certainly not what they used to be.  Anyway, I'd like to see Anchor Bay release a 2 -disk special edition of Fright Night if I had my way.  Chris Sarandon was one of the best vampires I've ever seen, along with Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee.  Sarandon was downright spooky, especially after Charlie stuck that number 2 pencil through his claw.  Oh Brewster, you're so cool!!!

PS - It's hard to believe I'll be turning 40 this September.  My goodness, where has all the time gone?

I loved Fright Night and Return of the Living Dead and saw them several times at the theater. I still have Fright Night on VHS. My favorite part of Return was the 1/2 dog. Now thats entertainment!

The horror movies of the 80's will forever be my favorite and I seriously doubt it'll ever be outdone.  With movies such as The Fog, The Thing, Day of the Dead, Poltergeist, and of course the movies mentioned above, I can't think of any period in time which I'd rather watch.  Of course, I truly love horror movies from before and after the 80's but growing up during the 80's has always made that particular time extra special for me.

I haven't seen either of these so I wouldn't know. I do know they made a remake of one of the scariest movies for me which was "When a Stranger Calls" I wouldn't go see it.
At Hypericon we were talking about what movies had scared us the most and I couldn't really think of one at the time but lately I have been thinking about The Bad Seed.

That one really creeped me out I guess because it was too real.
I didn't see the remake of that one either. Maybe I am afraid it would be just as 'good'.

As we probably all know, the Fright Night DVD release is bare bones.  I just recently discovered that the Icons of Fright website has conducted and posted two different commentaries for Fright Night that can be downloaded from the Icons of Fright website.  They are designed to be synchronized with the DVD so you can watch the movie and listen to the commentary on your computer/MP3 player/whatever.

You can also just right-click on these links to download the MP3s:

FRIGHT NIGHT Commentary Track with Writer/Director Tom Holland, Stars Chris Sarandon (Jerry Dandrige) & Jonathan Stark (Billy Cole), moderated by Tim Sullivan

FRIGHT NIGHT Commentary Track with Writer/Director Tom Holland, Stars William Ragsdale (Charley Brewster), Stephen Geoffreys ("Evil" Ed Thompson) & FX Artist Randall William Cook, moderated by Jeremy Smith (Mr. Beaks from Ain't It Cool News.com) & hosted by Tim Sullivan. (Recorded by Cliff Greenough)

And here is a Geocities fan site for Fright Night, which seems to be about the only one out there.  Note that it has sound clips that play when the load the page.

And FWIW, I hate the idea of a remake, too.  When I went to see Fright Night, I don't remember even having seen any trailers for it.  I just knew that Roddy McDowall was in it, so I went to see it and was blown away by it.  It's definitely my favorite vampire movie.

I know some will disagree and call me crazy, however, I'll go as far as saying that I enjoyed Fright Night considerably more than I did the Lost Boys.  Just the feel and the mood of Fright Night and the whole idea of there being a vampire living next door to you really grabbed me.  It's really a spooky concept.  Who can forget that horrific scene when Amy, already having been bitten and turned, comes after Brewster with a gaping mouth full of fangs?  That scene still gives me the chills.

I am Fright Night fan. I can't imagine it without Roddy Mcdowall!

Remake? I don't want to see remake. Why should remake a perfect movie?   I liked Richard Edlund's fire effect. It's pretty realistic than CGI.

Also I heard somebody remade "Clash of the Titans".......

Hello Kenji,

I couldn't agree with you more.  Fright Night is perfect just the way it is.  I couldn't imagine ruining it with CGI.  Fright Night will always be a horror classic as far as I'm concerned.  Roddy will always live on in that movie, God rest his soul.
