I finished Robert McCammon's forthcoming @subpress book last night. Wonderful read! One of his 3 best novels.
I'll pontificate in detail about [it] over at the Keenedom when I get some free time.

I never had any doubts this novel would be the best so far. Robert had chosen a great time in history to base his novels and he is such a talented author. Tyranthus Slaughter is going to be a great character. The small mention of him in QoB was enough to assure me of that.
The only issue is getting the novel delivered in time to the UK.. :O(

It's so good to know the book is coming soon.
I know the time I spend reading Mister Slaughter will be the highlight of my year - and my life will be enhanced because of it.
Question - How many authors can we say THAT about today..?
Answer - One - Robert McCammon... |

I got lucky. I just finished reading an advanced copy of Mister Slaughter and thought it was actually better than the first two "Matthew Corbett" novels, and I loved them. I really didn't want this novel to end, knowing that it might... be two or more years before the fourth one in the series comes out.
All I'm going to say right now is that if you like the character of Hannibal Lector in the Thomas Harris novels, then you're going to love Mister Slaughter. Mister Slaughter is one of the most evil characters I've come across in fiction. To deal with him, Matthew will have to look deep within himself to find the strength to fight a battle that he may end up losing, the prize being his life. This book is definitely Robert McCammon at his best. This is also a novel that you will want to keep in hardcover and as a collector's item.

Hi all This is a short review of Mister Slaughter on the website Overlook Connection: Bookstore of the Fantastic.
Quoted Text
Mister Slaughter is at once a classic portrait of an archetypal serial killer and an exquisitely detailed account of a fledgling nation still in the process of inventing itself. Suspenseful, illuminating, never less than compulsively readable, it is, by any measure, an extraordinary achievement, the largest accomplishment to date from one of our most gifted--and necessary--writers.
Need I add any more. I don't think so. Is there a confirmed date of release yet? Last I heard it was October ...ish.... Cheers DKs |

Mister Slaughter will be released in January 2010. At one time, I thought it would be November or December, but January is the actual release date.

I saw this on Brian Keene's forum from author J. F. Gonzalez:
"You all have to buy and read Mister Slaughter when it is published in January from Sub Press. I finished an ARC of it last week and it is absolutely fantastic!" |

Hi all I have to say it but Mister Slaughter was excellent. I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed a book as much as this. I must have looked a complete fool reading the book with a grin the Cheshire Cat would have been proud of. It is just a pity that there is such a lag between the publishing of his books. I read his blog and completely understand why the lag occurs but is there not something we, the fans of such a great author, can do to canvas his work to publishing companies? I would haved thought the fantastic press the book received and the fact that a fifth print is imminent speaks volumes. DKs |

That was a wonderful read! I just read Mister Slaughter and the previous 2 Corbett novels back to back. I was at first reluctant about the idea of historical fiction but got hooked soon into Nightbird and couldn't stop until the end of Mister Slaughter. Now I look forward, very impatiently, for the next in the series. Great work, Robert! |

Just finished Mister Slaughter, decided to take a bit longer over it and have to say it was fantastic. I too am looking forward to the next in the Corbett saga. |
