About the Book:

Important Note: Only those who own a Limited or Lettered Edition of The Providence Rider may order the same edition of The River of Souls at this time, unless you order both. Anyone may order the trade edition.

The year is 1703. The place: the Carolina settlement of Charles Town. Matthew Corbett, professional “problem solver,” has accepted a lucrative, if unusual, commission: escorting a beautiful woman to a fancy dress ball.

What should be a pleasant assignment takes a darker turn when Matthew becomes involved in a murder investigation. A sixteen-year-old girl has been stabbed to death on the grounds of a local plantation. The suspected killer is a slave who has escaped, with two family members, into the dubious protection of a nearby swamp. Troubled by certain discrepancies and determined to see some sort of justice done, Matthew joins the hunt for the runaway slaves. He embarks on a treacherous journey up the Solstice River, also known as the River of Souls.  He discovers that something born of the swamp has joined the hunt… and is stalking the hunters with more than murder in mind.

What follows is a shattering ordeal encompassing snakes, alligators, exiled savages, mythical beasts, and ordinary human treachery. The journey up the River of Souls will test the limits of Matthew’s endurance, and lead him through a nightmarish passage to a confrontation with his past, and a moment that will alter his life forever.

Gripping, unsettling, and richly atmospheric, The River of Souls is a masterful historical adventure featuring the continuing exploits of a young hero the USA Character Approved Blog has called “the Early American James Bond.”

The Limited and Lettered Editions will contain the 10,000 word bonus story, “The Scorpion’s Eye”, as well as full-color illustrations not in the Trade Hardcover.

The first 500 folks who order the Trade hardcover will receive a signed (but not inscribed) copy.

Several years ago, twins Bradley and Kevin Marcus optioned the film rights to The Wolf’s Hour. They’ve spent the years writing a script and pitching it to many people in Hollywood. Finally, Hollywood news site Deadline.com has just posted this exciting news!

Universal, Chris Morgan Howl For ‘The Wolf’s Hour’

EXCLUSIVE: Universal Pictures has acquired the Robert McCammon novel The Wolf’s Hour for Chris Morgan and Emile Gladstone to produce through their Universal-based Chris Morgan Productions banner. While Universal has done several werewolf films since launching the classic from its original movie monster library, this is a different take on the legend and it comes with a screenplay. The novel focuses around a man who is recruited by the Allies in WWII specifically for his ability to go werewolf. He’s charged with stopping a Nazi plot to drop poison gas on England, and at the same time he searches for his long lost blood brother.

The script was written by Bradley and Kevin Marcus. The Marcus brothers optioned the 1989 novel themselves, and took the time to flesh out a script that sparked Morgan and Gladstone after CMP exec Ainsley Davies brought it in. Morgan is working on the revamped Fast & Furious 7 film which goes back in production for Universal. CMP is repped by ICM Partners, and the scribes are repped by Resolution and Zero Gravity Management. Production veep Anikah McLaren will oversee for Universal.

As with all things Hollywood, time will tell if the film gets made, but this is the farthest any movie based on a McCammon novel has gotten at a major studio! Congratulations to Brad and Kevin for their diligence over the years!

Darkest Night

Lyrics by Robert McCammon
Copyright © 2013 Robert McCammon

I had a dream and I was wide awake
I sat there thinking of the choices you make
To rise or fall, that’s what it’s about,
To keep going, and I started to shout,

(chorus)
Every darkest night must give way to the dawn,
Every lost soul must keep searching on,
Every wrong love must fight to be right,
Everyone must live through their own darkest night

I’ve seen a lot since the day I woke up,
Been through the fire, drank from a poisoned cup,
But I’m still here and I plan to remain,
In the old world that can make you insane

I search for beauty, it’s hard to find,
Walking through shadows to leave darkness behind,
It’s a hard old world when nothing feels right,
Gonna find a reason to keep fighting the fight

Through the darkest night
The darkest night
Through the darkest night
The darkest night…
