hwa-whc-2013-logoThe 2013 Bram Stoker Awards Weekend 2013 Incorporating World Horror Convention takes place this weekend, June 13—June 16 in New Orleans, LA. As previously announced, Robert McCammon (who will be attending) and Clive Barker (who will not) will be receiving Bram Stoker Awards for Lifetime Achievement.

If you’re in the New Orleans area, there is a mass signing on Friday, June 14, from 7 to 9 PM that is open to the public; no convention ticket will be required for you to attend the mass signing. For a list of all the authors who will be signing then, visit the 2013 Stokers website. Mr. McCammon is scheduled to be present from 7 to 9 PM.

If you’re attending the convention, Mr. McCammon will be interviewed by Yvonne Navarro at 3 PM on Saturday. I hope to have an audio recording of this interview available next week.

The actual Bram Stoker Awards presentations will be streamed live via Ustream on Saturday, June 15, 2013, starting at 10 PM EDT. Click here to watch the presentations.

Nightmare_09_June_2013-200x300The new issue of Nightmare Magazine (issue 9) features a new interview with Robert McCammon conducted by author Lisa Morton. You can visit their website to purchase an EPUB (NOOK) or MOBI (Kindle) version of the magazine for $2.99. Or you can check back there on June 26 to read the interview for free.

I recently unearthed a 1981 promotional poster for They Thirst that I didn’t even know existed until I found someone selling it. The poster was produced by Avon Books, who published They Thirst as a paperback original in 1981. The front of the poster shows the cover art used for the paperback, while the back includes marketing material, including a synopsis of the book. Photos of the poster have been added to the Book Cover Gallery. (My apologies for the quality of the photos; the folded poster made it difficult to get a good photo without too much reflected glare from either natural lighting or the camera’s flash.) Until I saw this poster, I had no idea how extensively Avon marketed They Thirst.

And AVON reaches millions of late-night radio listeners with 60-second commercials on The Larry King Show, airing on 210 stations across the country!

LOS ANGELES ADVERTISING: 50 outdoor billboards, measuring 10 feet by 22 feet each, will inundate the Los Angeles area for one month!

There were also a 36-copy floor display and a 12-copy counter display available to booksellers.

Can you imagine seeing 50 billboards advertising They Thirst? I would so love to see a photo of one of those and to hear the radio commercials!

The lettered edition of I Travel by Night

The 2013 Audie Awards, which recognize “distinction in audiobooks and spoken word entertainment” and are sponsored by the Audio Publishers Assocication, were presented yesterday in New York. The audiobook edition of Speaks the Nightbird, narrated by Edoardo Ballerini, had been nominated in the Fiction category, but it lost to Clair Danes’s narration of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Also, the audiobook of Shadow Show, containing McCammon’s short story “Children of the Bedtime Machine,” was nominated but lost. Congratulations to Edoardo Ballerini for winning “Solo Narration – Male” for his reading of Jess Walter’s Beautiful Ruins!

Author David B. Silva, who published the seminal horror magazine The Horror Show, in addition to writing novels and stories, died earlier this year. Cemetery Dance Publications has announced that they will be publishing Better Weird, an anthology that will pay tribute to Dave Silva. Publication details are still to be determined, but the anthology will include stories and tributes from Billie Sue Mosiman, Joe Lansdale, Kealan Patrick Burke, Rick McCammon, Gary Raisor, Tom Monteleone, Elizabeth Massie, Brian Hodge, Steve Rasnic Tem, Kathy Ptacek, Yvonne Navarro, Robert Swartwood, J.F. Gonzalez, Bentley Little, Brian Keene, and Paul F. Olson. The McCammon contribution will be a reprint of “Yellachile’s Cage”, along with a short remembrance of Dave. For comments from Billie Sue Mosiman about the project, see this article from Hobbes End Publishing. Stay tuned for more details.

Photos of the limited and lettered editions of I Travel by Night have been added to the Book Cover Gallery.

Finally, some recent reviews from around the ‘net:

Subterranean Press included this in their morning newsletter:

First, thanks to everyone who’s been waiting patiently for the signed, limited edition of Robert McCammon’s I Travel by Night. The slipcases are due to ship to us this week. With luck, we’ll be shipping copies within the next several weeks.

Second, we’re pleased to let you know that the trade hardcover is now over 90% sold out, and we do NOT plan on reprinting. So if a hardcover is in your future, best to pick one up from us or your favorite bookstore.

We have heard from Rick that he plans several sequels to the initial novella. Now’s your chance to get in on the ground floor.

If reading electronically is your bag, don’t forget I Travel by Night is available as an ebook.

Trade: Fully cloth bound hardcover edition: $35

Also, two great new reviews of I Travel by Night were posted over the weekend:

Publishing house Tor will be releasing a mass-market paperback edition of Robert McCammon’s The Five on December 1, 2013. They haven’t released the cover art or, indeed, any details yet, but the MMPB is already pre-orderable via Amazon and Barnes & Noble. It will have a list price of $7.99.

As always, we’ll pass along more information as it becomes available.
